Every morning I have the opportunity to tap into the universe. I sit cross-legged on my couch, close my eyes, and initiate a meditation. Typically 15 minutes is enough to enter a new state of mind. One where time and space dissolve and my thoughts subdue. Where I’m only left with the here and now.
It’s during meditation where we recognise how loud and chaotic our inner chatter really is. There is no end to our inner voice’s jabbering. It runs in circles and confabulates a narrative relentlessly. Because it is constantly updating and explaining our behaviour, thoughts, and feelings, an intervention is in order. We must take a stand by becoming one with our breath.
You really only begin to feel the benefits of meditation if you do it on a consistent basis. Set a time in the morning when the world is quiet. Be disciplined about your meditation practice and treat that time as sacred. This is your opportunity to delve into reality without distraction. Before the worries of the day have arrived.
Pay attention to how you feel after a good meditation session. Does your head feel clearer? Your body lighter? Your soul rested? These are signs that you properly followed your breath. Another added benefit from meditation is observing the passage of time. Time can be a fickle force, yet with proper mediation you can reign it in. A deeper understanding of the flow of time will eventually emerge.
Mediating meditation does not require money or a sophisticated course. It simply involves setting aside a pocket of time and giving an honest attempt. Meditation can take place anywhere, although I recommend finding a peaceful setting. It is not confined to the sanctity of our home either. Meditation can be practiced while waiting in a lobby, driving a car, washing the dishes, brushing your teeth, and more. Once you begin, a new world will open up before you.
