In a dance, where you arrive on the floor when you finish is not the point. So too is the case with life. Yet we tend to act as if we’re in one big hurry.
There are many parallels that can be drawn between dancing and life. Both require movement of sorts to be of any interest. Both, in practicality, are an art rather than a science. Both are a necessity for the human condition.
Yet if this is true, why do so many trivialize dance or those who practice it? Why isn’t dance an integral part of our educational curriculum? Something everyone tries to improve upon and put a sincere effort into? Why isn’t dance taken as seriously as any other discipline?
The author Stephen King in his epic, 11/22/63, eloquently wrote: “Dancing is life”. The two are interchangeable. To live is to dance and to dance is to live. Dancing is not some luxury that can be afforded by the few, but something sorely needed by the many. Imagine a world with more dance and less violence. More harmony and less division. More shared understanding and less isolated confusion.
We’re living in a time where loneliness has become an epidemic. I cannot think of a better cure to loneliness than dance. What better way is there to feel integrated with the group than to join a dance community? A place that will lift your spirits and remind you why you’re human. A safe space that fosters self expression.
Dancing can be a means for crafting one’s identity. Where we can express our emotions fully and unadulterated. I hope, dear reader, that if you previously neglected having dance as a component to your existence, that you will reconsider. Dance has the power to transform your daily living. To embolden your senses and add wonder to your daily itinerary. Give dancing a chance. Just as life gave a chance on you.
