The term ikigai refers to a Japanese concept of what gives a person reason for living. One of its core questions is: what does the world need from me? I feel this is a question we don’t often ask ourselves, but should. What is something I can solely contribute to the world? What unique skill set do I bring to the table? What is truly needed by society from me?
A deep dive on who you are and your potential is needed before tackling this question. Journaling can be a useful tool for scratching past the surface and getting closer to your core. You may be surprised what you find. Asking loved ones and those closest to you can also help you obtain a better picture of yourself.
