The narrative you compose dictates the life you live. Portray yourself as the victim and this is the life you will lead. Tell a story of resiliency to hardship and so will shape your character. You are the author of your life. You get to decide the cast of characters who will support you. The setting you will occupy. The daunting challenges you must overcome. The treasure at the end of the rainbow. It is all up to you.
When constructing your narrative allow ample room for responsibility. The more responsibility you adopt, the more meaningful your life will become. What role would you like to play in your community? How would you like to be remembered by your neighbours? What kind of citizen would you like to be? Each of these roles matters a great deal in the macro sphere.
For the micro, consider what sort of friend you could be. How to be the optimal family member. These critical relationships will be either strengthened or weakened over time based on the choices you make. The time horizon is significant and thus proper reflection is needed. In order to gauge your current progress, ask your closet friends and family members how they feel about you. Request honest feedback and inquire where there is room for improvement. Evaluate this feedback earnestly.
How do you place yourself in the world? And where in the journey of your story do you find yourself? Having this awareness and sense of orientation is essential if one is to make proper progress. Before you can move forward with you trials and tribulations, you must first know where you are. Take stock of your career, physical and mental health, social status, and financial standing. Which areas have you most been neglecting? Which areas require the most urgent attention?
When crafting your story, compose the most engrossing narrative you can. One where the reader is rooting for the protagonist to triumph. And is in awe by the lead character’s bravery. Have them keep turning the page to see what will happen next. To see the protagonist overcome an even more seemingly insurmountable obstacle. This is your story. Write something beautiful.
